Wesley Dean, M.D., FAAFP, FAWM

A Knoxville native, Dr. Dean graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He attended medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center - Memphis and completed his residency at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. He formed Emory Family Practice in 1989 with Dr. Ronald Barton and is a founding member of Summit Medical Group where he continues to be active in its leadership. He is Board Certified in Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP). He is a past president of the Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians and remains active in both the state and national academies. Dr. Dean has completed a fellowship in wilderness medicine (FAWM) through the Wilderness Medical Society. He enjoys numerous outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, landscaping and is an avid golfer. Dr. Dean resides in the Powell community where he attends church and is active in its Music ministry as a drummer. 


Brad Flaming, M.D., FAAFP

Dr. Flaming is originally from Ashland, Kentucky. He received his undergraduate degree from Transylvania University (in Lexington, KY) and his medical degree from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. He completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Knoxville Medical Center in Family Practice. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP). He joined Emory Family Practice in 1993 and was a founding member of Summit Medical Group. Dr. Flaming lives in Powell and enjoys hiking, fly-fishing, music, church and family activities.


Kathy Chism, M.D. (Photo not posted)

Dr. Chism is a native of Asheville, North Carolina. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a bachelors and masters degree in Biology and received her medical degree from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill. She completed her residency at the University of Tennessee Knoxville Medical Center in Family Practice, where she served as chief resident. Dr. Chism is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. She joined Emory Family Practice in 1999. She lives in the Powell area and enjoys music, theater and her dogs.


Nick Thornton, M.D.

A native of Brownsville, Tennessee, Dr. Thornton graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering. He received his medical degree from ETSU Quillen College of Medicine in Johnson City, Tennessee. He completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Knoxville Medical Center in Family Practice. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He joined Emory Family Practice in 2004. Dr. Thornton resides in the Halls area with his wife and 3 children. They attend Fellowship Church and he enjoys traveling and playing golf.


Jordan Lakin, D.O.

A Powell native, Dr. Lakin graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a bachelor's degree in microbiology and a second degree in psychology. He received his medical degree from Edward Via College of Osteopathis Medicine in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He completed his residency at the University of Tennessee Knoxville Medical center in Family Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine. He joined Emory Family Practice in 2021. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, cheering on the Volunteers, and playing music as often as possible. Dr. Lakin and his family live in the Powell community and attend church at Sevier Heights Baptist.


Carlie Mullen, FNP-C 

Carlie grew up in Knoxville and graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. She worked as a cardiology Registered Nurse while completing her Masters degree at Clemson University. She is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She and her husband have 2 children. They enjoy Tennessee sports, playing with their nieces and nephew, traveling, and spending time in the Smoky Mountains. 


Daniel Salmon, PA-C

Daniel is a certified physician assistant. He earned a Bachelor degree from Freed-Hardeman University in 2005. He received his Masters in Science in Medicine from Trevecca University in 2010. He is proficient in chronic disease management, urgent care/acute illness, annual wellness and preventative medicine. He is married and has a daughter. He enjoys hiking, cooking and is active in his church.
